Third Grade at Santa Clara Elementary School (SCES) is an exciting year filled with both fun and new concepts and it is our first year in the Intermediate Grade level. Students go from learing to read to reading to learn. Our Third Grade students study religion, Oxnard history, Chumash history, art, cursive, writing, multiplication, and division in a challenging academic environment of excellence, based on the Common Core State Standards and Archdiocesan standards. SCES believes in educating the "whole child", therefore our Third Graders attend an extensive variety of Enrichment Classes: Spanish, Art, Music, STEM, and Physical Education.
Our experienced and credentialed Third Grade teacher received her Catholic Catechetical Certification and has ten years of experience which enable her to prepare students to experience success both now, and in their future grade levels. Third Grade at SCES is a special time as students leave behind the Primary Grades and step forth into the Intermediate Grades.
For our Catholic student body, Catholic faith formation is enhanced throughout all aspects of the Third Grade year, including: participation in weekly school wide Masses, liturgical events, student-led Christmas Program lead roles, prayer services, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, conflict resolution based on gospel values, and the formal/academic study of our Catholic faith.
SCES Third Grade students study in-depth about Native American cultures and how the diffent cultures lived and adapted within their natural environments. The class visits the Chumash Indian Museum on an annual field trip and experiences first-hand how the Chumash people lived, their historical, cultural and material significance as well as the natural environment they relied upon.
SCES utilizes the cutting-edge digital-based IXL English, Language Arts and Math programs, in order to most effectively teach our Third Grade students the core academic subjects. They also use EXTRA Math, Seesaw and game base learning. These programs are aligned with the Common Core State Standards.
