The Following Team Sports Are Available at Santa Clara School: Flag Football - Volleyball - Cheerleading - Basketball
Flag Football, boys and girls Volleyball and Basketball and Cheerleading are available to Santa Clara Elementary School (SCES) students in Secondary and Junior High grade levels. SCES is a member of the All-Catholic Schools League (ACSL), and as such our students and coaches participating on these ACSL teams follow the league's rules and standards for behavior. All SCES athletes are required to sign an "SCES Athlete's Code of Conduct", and submit forms and fees prior to playing.
Athletics are an integral part of our school's total educational program, as we strive at SCES to educate the "whole child". Volunteer team coaches are selected by the school administration, in collaboration with the SCES Athletic Director. SCES coaches adhere to ours and CYO's coaches' "Code of Conduct" and are required to: be fingerprinted by the school; attend an Archdiocesan-mandated VIRTUS class on "Protecting God's Children"; read and sign Archdiocesan "Boundary Guidelines"; and attend a CYO-sponsored workshop, "Play Like a Champion". Our school activities, curricular and extra-curricular - both in the classroom and on the playing field - are designed to be congruent with the Schoolwide Learning Expectations (SLEs) of Santa Clara Elementary School. Athletics is an important part of our school's goal to "educate the whole child".
To promote school spirit and acknowledge the high achievement of our SCES athletic teams and hard-working student athletes, we celebrate monthly “Spirit Days” and a “Pep Rally” during each sports season (Fall, Winter and Spring), along with "Basketball Spirit Night", and a Sports Awards Banquet held in May. In addition, "A" teams comprised of 7th and 8th Grade students strive to earn a "League Championship Banner" for their team, which is then displayed inside our school in perpetuity.
After receipt of the required forms and fees, student athletes are issued SCES team uniforms which are required to be returned at the close of each sports season. Team members are required to be in their full team uniform in order to play in a league game and/or complete on behalf of SCES in any sports event.
Our school’s teams are called the “Saints”, and SCES teams consistently earn both girls' and boys' League Championship titles and school championship banners!
Go Saints!!
Santa Clara Elementary School is proud to partner with the Saint Sebastian Sports Project to provide excellent opportunities for student athletes to play youth sports at SCES.
The Saint Sebastian Sports Project, is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization working to level the playing fields for student athletes in underserved Catholic schools in the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
Its mission: to give every child – regardless of family income – the chance to learn the skills, experience the growth, and share in the joy of participating in a school sports team.
Founded in 2009, it currently provides resources and offers special programs to support sports teams in 60 inner city Catholic Schools in Los Angeles. Since inception, it has enabled more than 10,000 children to benefit from the life-changing experience of playing on a sports team.
