As the critical final component of the Santa Clara Elementary School (SCES) three-year departmentalized Junior High, Eighth Grade is the culminating year at SCES for excellence in Catholic education, spiritual growth and opportunities.
During Eighth Grade at Santa Clara Elementary School (SCES) students continue to change classrooms and teachers for their academic and enrichment subjects Spanish, Art, Music, STEM, and Physical Education. To support the needs of our diverse student population, SCES offers Accelerated Literature and Mathematics for qualified students; a comprehensive school Resource Program; and complimentary Math Peer Tutoring.
SCES utilizes a wide range of teaching methodologies throughout our Junior High program, such as: lecture, note-taking, interactive classroom SmartBoards, hands-on projects, class discussions, cooperative group activities, writing assignments graded within the framework of the SCES school wide writing program, oral presentations, and virtual experiences through technology. The use of technology includes (but is not limited to) class iPads; weekly technology classes; the classroom interactive, touch screen SmartBoard; and student Power Point presentations.
Our credentialed Eighth Grade Homeroom Teacher a Masters Degree in Education and teaches Social Studies, Religion and Art to all the Junior High Students. In addition, the SCES Junior High teachers work together as a team, in order to provide a cohesive curriculum and program for our Eighth Graders. Both our SCES Seventh and Eighth Grades provide comprehensive student Christian Service Programs, as we believe strongly that, “…to whom much is given, much is expected”. In addition, we involve our students in Mass/liturgy planning, prayer services, coordination of student-centered Stations of the Cross during Lent, and class retreats.
As SCES believes strongly in our mission of “educating the whole child”, our SCES Eighth Grade students are expected to serve as positive role models for the younger students in our school, especially their “Little Buddies” in Transitional Kindergarten. Our graduating class serves as school wide leaders, as they practice “making good choices”, and prepare to graduate and experience continued success in high school.
